Customized solution for cleanroom class ISO 7 in existing production rooms

Dr. Fritz Faulhaber GmbH & Co. KG develops and manufactures high-precision drive systems for demanding applications. A cleanroom compliant with ISO 14644-1 Class 7 was required for the manufacture of microelectronic prototypes – and this had to be achieved within existing production facilities with limited access via elevators and stairs. An additional challenge was the need for an electrostatic-protected environment (ESD) to protect the sensitive components from damage.

Challenge: Cleanroom installation in existing infrastructure with ESD protection

The production of microelectronic components requires a high-purity environment to prevent contamination that could impair the functionality of the components. At the same time, the cleanroom solution had to fit into the existing production rooms without requiring major structural changes. Access via elevators and stairs posed additional logistical challenges for implementation.

Another key criterion was electrostatic safety: microelectronic components are extremely sensitive to electrical discharges, so the entire cleanroom system had to be designed to be ESD-compliant.

Solution: Flexible cleanroom tent with ESD-compliant materials

Sphairlab developed a customised cleanroom tent with an area of 40 m², which was integrated into existing production rooms. Thanks to its modular design, the entire structure could be delivered in transportable individual parts and assembled on site – an ideal solution for limited access via elevators and stairs.

To provide optimal protection for the sensitive microelectronic components, the entire cleanroom tent was manufactured from ESD-compliant materials. This ensures safe dissipation of electrostatic charges and prevents uncontrolled discharges that could damage the components. The cleanroom tent was equipped with a personnel airlock and a material airlock to ensure the cleanliness of the environment and enable efficient material logistics.

Result: Standard-compliant cleanroom environment for sensitive microelectronics

Within just 10 weeks – from order to commissioning – Dr. Fritz Faulhaber GmbH & Co. KG was able to put a fully functional cleanroom environment for the manufacture of microelectronic prototypes into operation. The combination of ISO 7 cleanroom class and ESD protection meets all requirements for a safe and contamination-free production environment.
