Occupational Safety Through Textile Enclosures
sphairlab Implements Exhaust Chamber with Negative Pressure Technology for evos GmbH

sphairlab GmbH has implemented a textile enclosure with negative pressure technology for evos GmbH to eliminate odor nuisance caused by liquid polymers during additive manufacturing. The project demonstrates how the company’s modular solutions can be used not only for cleanrooms but also for occupational safety.
Flexible containment systems for safe production environments
evos GmbH uses several 3D printers that process liquid polymers and release vapors in the process. To protect employees from unpleasant odors while still allowing the space to be used for other tasks, an extraction system was installed in combination with textile walls. The negative pressure technology within the isolated area ensures that emissions are extracted in a controlled manner, a departure from the positive pressure technology typically used by sphairlab, which primarily serves cleanroom functionality. The project underscores the technological flexibility of sphairlab’s textile systems: While positive pressure in cleanrooms prevents the ingress of particles, negative pressure here enables the controlled extraction of pollutants and odors. The solution was implemented in a very short time and meets the following requirements:
- enclosing hazardous areas with textile enclosures
- reducing airborne hazardous substances through targeted extraction
- ensuring occupational safety without costly construction measures
- flexible use of space, as the systems are modular and mobile
Occupational safety as a central component of modern production environments
In industries such as medical technology, pharmaceuticals, and mechanical engineering, the focus is increasingly on employee protection in addition to product quality. The solution implemented at evos GmbH demonstrates how textile enclosures with targeted airflow can serve as a practical alternative to permanent installations. Particularly advantageous features include:
- Quick implementation: No lengthy planning or construction phases
- Adaptability: The systems can be expanded, relocated, or reconfigured as requirements change
- Combinability: Positive pressure for cleanrooms and negative pressure for extraction can be achieved using the same technology
